Webinar Description:
This webinar will discuss the modality intervention of negative pressure manual therapy (NPMT), also referred to as "cupping" or vacuum suction therapy. An introduction to the operational principles of the combination of both negative pressure and mechanical vibration on lymphatic drainage will be illustrated. Clinical studies that relate to the use of NPMT on edema will also be presented. Demonstration of the technology will also be introduced as examples.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  1. Differentiate between positive and negative pressure and its effects on the lymphatic system
  2. Explain the operational principles of NPMT and High Frequency Mechanical Vibration
  3. Understand the both relative and absolute contraindications of NPMT
  4. Observe the principles of lymphatic drainage using NPMT in video demonstrations

Louisa holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Kansas. She received her lymphedema certification in 2011 from the Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy and went on to obtain certification with the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA). She was appointed as a regional liaison for LANA in 2012 and then was voted into the board of directors in 2013, where she remained an active member until 2021.

During her lymphatic therapy career, Louisa expanded the lymphedema program through her hospital system breast center to advocate for pre and post surgical lymphedema education and surveillance. She appeared on several public service commercials to educate on the topic of lymphedema, bioimpedance technology and axillary cording. She started a local lymphedema study group and organized a lymphedema educational event for medical professionals.

In 2018, Louisa went to Washington D.C. to lobby for the Lymphedema Treatment Act. She has worked as a NLN Ambassador and moderator for the NLN Modalities Discussion Groups and facilitated the NLN March Madness Micro-conference. In 2021, Louisa started her own clinical training business – nPress - which focuses on treatment modalities and education. Louisa hopes to employ her past experience to continue to promote the mission of the NLN and to build strong relationships with the lymphedema community and training programs in order to inspire therapists to seek careers in the world of lymphology.
